Candace Owens Just Crossed a Line in Her Rantings on the “Mormon Mafia”
Candace Owens has made her living as a successful podcaster by seeing conspiracies everywhere and in recent months has been trying to piece together an elaborate scheme behind the murder of Charlie Kirk. She has floated or promoted theories involving Israel, the French government or French Foreign Legion, the U.S. government, federal law enforcement, Turning Point USA personnel, donors, and people within Kirk’s own circle. Lately, she has turned to taking on Charlie’s widow, Erika, accusing her of pursuing “fame and fortune” and suggested Charlie was a vehicle for her ambitions.
Now, wait for it. Of course, there’s more. In a recent podcast she added a new group to be suspicious of in this murder—it is, of course the Mormons. It is the so-called Mormon Mafia that caught her attention. These were a group of inner circle aids to Howard Hughes who were predominantly Mormon and were given that nickname by the press which she enlarges into a power menace that still runs things behind the scenes.
She begins this section of her July 22rd podcast by saying she was chatting with Courtney Love. “We were talking about Hollywood, and she was then telling me, everyone talks about Zionists, but you have to understand the relationship between the Zionists and the Mormons controlling everything in Hollywood and music and publishing rights”. She produces no evidence, just this fantastical hearsay, and then launches into a podcast with skewed facts, shaky connections and bold insinuations about this multi-generational network of suspicious Mormon power brokers that are behind the scenes manipulating events.
This is demagoguery at its worst. She capitalizes in persuading people to feel more certain than the evidence ever warrants, stringing together ideas and relating them for her own narrative, appealing to fear, anger, suspicion or grievance rather than carefully establishing what the facts actually prove.
Her claims about Latter-day Saints in this podcast are not only outlandish, they are dangerous. They are the careful manipulation of selective facts and unsubstantiated connections arranged to make her own conclusions inevitable. I have the sense that this is only the beginning of her Mormon story. It’s the kind of under current, under water accusations that have been heaped upon Jews for generations.
It is not a bland thing, easily said and easily forgotten, because Candace got over a million viewers for this podcast in the first two days.
